Last Week of School Year & Teacher Appreciation

June 2-6 was the last week of the 2013-14 school year at The Greenhouse, A Learning Center for Missionary Children.

During literature enrichment time with the various classes, I reviewed the details of our summer reading program, “Light Up your Summer with Reading,” and distributed reading logs and stickers. This slogan was chosen by the 5th and 6th grade class to go along with the reward for reading 30 days – a finger flashlight…a very practical gift in Cameroon where the electricity goes off several times a week (or sometimes several times a day or evening).

Grade 1 and 2 with teacher Karen Merry and their summer reading logs.
Hannah Mayo (center, behind chair) did not want to get bored this summer
and stocked up well during class book check-out time.

Grades 3 & 4, with teacher Naomi Emberson, display their summer reading logs.

Each morning during opening exercise time we start the day with prayer, a song, and announcements, including birthday greetings. I got to lead this time on June 5.
Our opening song during Greenhouse sessions is:
Listen, listen to us sing
All our praises to our King.
The Greenhouse is for us here;
Let us all to God draw near.
Precious God we ask this day
For your blessings on our way.

Making morning announcements before prayer.
Dismissing classes to their rooms.

The 2013-2014 Greenhouse Parent Committee sponsored the annual “Teacher Appreciation Luncheon” on June 4th. We were blessed with wonderful substitute and special area teachers - English as a Second Language, Art, Music and P.E.

We indeed felt affirmed. I received a mini-poster certificate:
Kay  We Appreciate You

Words printed in various directions: much loved; flexible; book lover; loves God; ventriloquist; joyful; helpful; motivator; loving; author; gifted; positive; servant; gusto

Poem border printed around the edges:
This is the ERC, come in, have a seat.
Let’s take a trip, you won’t have to leave your feet.
So many things, all for you to see.
I am the Librarian that’s my J-O-B.
Nonfiction, fiction, periodicals and sites,
I guide students to… information, get them hyped.
I don’t just run the library, I teach, I lead chapel and share Christ with all students.
Huey, Louie, Dewey Decimal, I know about that.
Don’t crack the spine of a paperback.

We were told to pass around our name place cards and write in a word or phrase what you appreciate about that person. On my name card, colleagues wrote: faithful; joyful; great organizer; lover of preschoolers; easy to talk to; helpful; cheerful; empathetic; serving with excellence; a researcher; enthusiastic; thorough, lover of details; courageous; giving.

Awwww…thanks friends. THANK YOU GOD for provision, protection, strength, and joy in You for my first year and half in Cameroon. Onward!

March-April 2014 WattsLine Posted

Announcing:

 My March-April 2014  WattsLine

is now posted under Newsletters

To subscribe for email delivery of the "WattsLine" via MailChimp, please contact me at kay_watts@wycliffe.org.

It has been a lengthy tedious process for this electronically challenged ‘old dog’ to learn new technology tricks  for having my “WattsLine” newsletter sent out via ChimpMail rather than from my laptop in order to be a good steward of financial resources (internet billing here now charged according to data transfer rather than just the calendar month).

I welcome feedback. Thanks for your prayers and encouragement for my journey in educational missions!

Easter Weekend 2014 in Cameroon

HAPPY EASTER and BLESSINGS from the Isaac family and friends Easter lunch bunch. Thank you Kendall and Renee for your hospitality...and thanks to all for your fellowship and food on Sunday afternoon.

Welcome back Barb Lane to the teaching rotation at our Tropicana neighborhood weekly Bible Club. Thanks for a wonderful Easter story presentation Saturday with your flannelgraph figures and interactive resurrection eggs review. Praise God for how you are "blooming where planted" after losing Bob recently.

I thank God for Ceci Engoro continually opening her heart and home, and interpreting into French the Gospel for neighborhood children. Exciting to see these young people growing in the Lord with their understanding and application of His Word.

I led children in singing the "Wordless Book" Song and reviewed the meaning of each color which summarizes the salvation message. We included a Wordless Book bead bracelet in a treat bag given to each child as they left.

"Wordless Book" Song by Frances M. Johnston
(Black) My heart was dark with sin until the Savior came in.
(Red) His precious blood I know
(White) Has washed it white as snow.
(Gold) And in His Word I'm told I'll walk the streets of gold.
(Green) To grow in Christ each day I read the Bible and pray.

During Preschool Storytime on Good Friday I shared the book The Sparrow's Easter Song by Michelle Adams. This story of Christ's death and resurrection is told by an eyewitness who happens to be a sparrow.  Sparrow calls all his friends together to tell them how Jesus was crucified, was buried, and rose to live again.

Youngsters did an Easter craft of a hill with a cross and Easter lily, accented with stickers of Easter messages such as "He is Risen." It warmed my heart that Riley Tembon (daughter of Efi & Mindy Tembon, who just turned 5) drew an empty tomb and large stone near the bottom of her hill - something not on the craft sample. I prepare a weekly sample of how crafts 'can' look, but encourage preschoolers to make each their own project. Riley's mom was also pleased, said it was Riley's idea and that several other children followed her example. You Go Riley!.
