June 2-6 was the last week of the 2013-14 school year at The Greenhouse, A
Learning Center for Missionary Children.
During literature enrichment time with the various classes, I reviewed the
details of our summer reading program, “Light
Up your Summer with Reading ,”
and distributed reading logs and stickers. This slogan was chosen by the 5th
and 6th grade class to go along with the reward for reading 30 days
– a finger flashlight…a very practical gift in Cameroon where the electricity goes
off several times a week (or sometimes several times a day or evening).
Grade 1 and 2 with teacher Karen Merry and their summer reading logs. Hannah Mayo (center, behind chair) did not want to get bored this summer and stocked up well during class book check-out time. |
Grades 3 & 4, with teacher Naomi Emberson, display their summer reading logs. |
Each morning during opening exercise time we start the day with prayer, a song, and announcements, including birthday greetings. I got to lead this time on June 5. Our opening song during Greenhouse sessions is:
Listen, listen to us sing
All our praises to our King.
The Greenhouse is for us here;
Let us all to God draw near.
Precious God we ask this day
For your blessings on our way.
Making morning announcements before prayer. |
Dismissing classes to their rooms. |
The 2013-2014 Greenhouse Parent Committee sponsored the annual “Teacher Appreciation
Luncheon” on June 4th. We were
blessed with wonderful substitute and special area teachers - English as a Second
Language, Art, Music and P.E.
We indeed felt affirmed. I received a mini-poster certificate:
Kay We
Appreciate You
Words
printed in various directions: much loved; flexible; book
lover; loves God; ventriloquist; joyful; helpful; motivator; loving; author;
gifted; positive; servant; gusto
Poem border printed around the edges:
